For king and country! Belgium’s royal succession

King Albert II of Belgium is abdicating and passing the crown to his son Philippe on the July 21. As the country experiences increasing pressure to reduce the role of the king or even abolish the monarchy, it’ll be up to Philippe to restore the royal family’s image as a beacon of stability. One problem, though: Is he ready to face this task?

My radio report on the Belgian succession was broadcasted on Deutsche Welle’s flagship radio show on European current affairs, Inside Europe. Have a listen to it below!
